Meaning and use

Editing begins with meaning: identify who does what and when. Check tense choices against the timeline, then verb patterns, articles, and punctuation. Keep a polite request clear. There may be more than one good revision; explain choices rather than changing every sentence merely to sound more formal.

Common mistakes

Instead of	Use	Why
I have sent you the form yesterday.	I sent you the form yesterday.	Yesterday calls for past simple in this completed-event context.
Please tell me where is the office.	Please tell me where the office is.	An embedded question uses statement order.
