FASTag has become an important part of everyday vehicle ownership in India. Along with managing toll payments, vehicle owners also need to stay on top of essentials such as challan check, RC details, insurance and PUC. Now, with NHAI introducing OneTag, FASTag users have another digital option to manage their existing tags.
OneTag allows eligible users to switch their FASTag issuer bank without replacing the physical tag. The service is available through the Rajmargyatra app.
What Can OneTag Change?
Previously, when a user wished to change their FASTag issuing bank, they would have to deregister their existing FASTag and reissue a new one. With OneTag, eligible users can keep their existing FASTag, only switching between the issuing banks. The same FASTag ID linked to their vehicle registration remains active.
To utilise this benefit, users must first check their eligibility via the Rajmargyatra app, get verification from their current issuing bank, select a preferred new bank, and complete the onboarding procedure. The old wallet is then closed and the balance transferred back to the user, minus applicable adjustments, and a six-month cooling-off period is initiated before the tag can be ported again.
For the growing number of vehicle owners who manage their vehicles digitally, connected tools are proving to be of great utility. Performing a routine challan check, for instance, can alert drivers to unpaid traffic fines, while a challan check app like MyMotor can consolidate this information with other vehicle-centric services.
In fact, this broader trend of connected mobility is explored at length in this Sugermint article on making vehicle ownership easier in India
As the ecosystem around FASTag grows and develops alongside other digital vehicle management tools, it becomes increasingly apparent that modern-day vehicle ownership is being transformed for the better by connected services and a more seamless digital experience.
