Meaning and use

Edit complex sentences by identifying each finite clause and its connection to the others. Check the main subject and verb across long modifiers. A semicolon or full stop can separate independent clauses; a comma alone usually cannot in formal prose. Split an overloaded sentence when that clarifies the logical relationship.

Common mistakes
