An Editing Checklist for Beginners

Review meaning, structure, grammar, and punctuation systematically.

Writing focus

Editing is easier in passes. First check whether the reader can understand the purpose and main information. Then check paragraph order, complete sentences, tense, agreement, articles, spelling, capitals, and punctuation. Reading slowly can reveal missing words. Keep a useful sentence if it is already clear; editing does not mean changing every word.

Writing patterns

Pattern	Example or form
Meaning pass	Is the purpose clear? Are time and place stated?
Sentence pass	Does each statement have the needed subject and verb?
Accuracy pass	Check tense, agreement, articles, spelling, and punctuation.

1. The meeting is on Friday at three.

   កិច្ចប្រជុំនៅថ្ងៃសុក្រម៉ោងបី។

2. She works in a small shop.

   នាងធ្វើការនៅហាងតូចមួយ។

3. I sent the form yesterday.

   ខ្ញុំបានផ្ញើសំណុំបែបបទម្សិលមិញ។

4. Could you confirm the date?

   តើអ្នកអាចបញ្ជាក់ថ្ងៃបានទេ?

Model writing

Before editing: hi maly i send you the form yesterday can you tell me where is the office

After editing:

Hi Maly,

I sent you the form yesterday. Could you tell me where the office is?

Common mistakes

Instead of	Use	Why
she work in shop.	She works in a shop.	Check capital letter, agreement, and the singular countable noun.
I have sent it yesterday.	I sent it yesterday.	Use past simple with this finished past-time expression.
