Writing focus

A singular countable noun usually needs a determiner such as a, the, or my. Use a or an according to the next sound, not simply the next written letter. Plural nouns often take -s or -es, but some are irregular. General uncountable nouns such as information do not take a or an.

នាមរាប់បានឯកវចនៈជាទូទៅត្រូវមាន a/the/my។ A/an អាស្រ័យលើសំឡេងបន្ទាប់។ នាមមិនរាប់បានដូច information មិនប្រើ a/an ទេ។

Writing patterns

Pattern	Example or form
Singular countable noun	a book / an apple / my notebook
Plural countable noun	two books / three boxes / two children
Uncountable noun	some information / a piece of advice

Examples

1. I bought a notebook.

   ខ្ញុំទិញសៀវភៅកត់ត្រាមួយ។

2. She is an engineer.

   នាងជាវិស្វករ។

3. We have two children.

   យើងមានកូនពីរនាក់។

4. The email contains useful information.

   អ៊ីមែលមានព័ត៌មានមានប្រយោជន៍។

Model writing

I have a notebook and two pens in my bag.

My sister has an English dictionary. We use the dictionary at home.

It gives us useful information about new words.

Common mistakes

Instead of	Use	Why
She is teacher.	She is a teacher.	A singular countable profession needs a determiner.
I need an information.	I need some information.	Information is uncountable in this use.
