Writing focus

A place description names the place, gives an overall impression, and adds useful details. Organise by location or by function rather than listing objects randomly. There is introduces one item; there are introduces more than one. Use sensory or practical details that support your main impression.

Model writing

Our local library is small but welcoming. The reading area is beside large windows, and there are several tables in the centre. A shelf of English books stands near the entrance. The room is usually quiet in the morning. I like studying there because I can read without many distractions.

Common mistakes

Instead of	Use	Why
There is many trees.	There are many trees.	Use are with the plural trees.
The library has quiet.	The library is quiet.	Use be to link an adjective description.
